After two defeats in the election for Governor of Washington State, one of which was among the closest elections in US history, Dino Rossi has decided to run for different office. Democrat Patty Murray is up for re-election, and Dino Rossi has tossed his hat within the ring for her seat within the US Senate. Murray’s counterpart in the US Senate, Maria Cantwell, is also a Democrat. That said, the Washington State Senate election Dino Rossi is trying to win is months away, and also the Washington State primaries are yet to conclude.
Dino Rossi has a strong background
Dino Rossi is not a stranger to government. Rossi served within the Senate of Washington State before his two runs for governor. While serving in that capacity from 1997 to 2003, Rossi was known for being able to cooperate with Democrats. He was able to get a budget passed without needing to raise taxes for a fast cash loans for the state, eliminating a $ 3 billion spending budget deficit. For accomplishing that, he was highly praised by then Governor Gary Locke, now Secretary of Commerce.
Two narrow losses
After Gary Locke left office, Rossi ran against Christine Gregoire for Governor of Washington State twice. Both were close races, and also the first was one of the tightest races in any election in American history. That election, in 2004, appeared to be an initial victory for Rossi, but after a second recount, Gregoire held a lead of 133 votes. He conceded that election, and his campaign four years later was another narrow loss.
Incumbent Democrats are in many people’s crosshairs
There seems to be a trend developing recently of Republicans seeking to unseat Democrats within the United States House and Senate. He will have a chore on his hands, as Patty Murray has served within the United States Senate for 3 terms. That said, Dino Rossi still has to win the Washington State Republican Primary and he has various challengers. Among them is Chris Didier, a Super Bowl winning previous NFL player with the uber-precious endorsement of Sarah Palin. Though perennially typecast as a Blue State, most of Washington State by territory really votes Republican.
